Science-Educator Teams Overview
COSEE Coastal Trends supports four-member teams consisting of a research scientist, graduate student, secondary science teacher, and Hampton University undergraduate student. The scientists and graduate students are selected from our partnering research institutions that have agreed to mentor teacher/students teams. We recruit and select, through an application process, secondary level teachers from regional and national school districts to participate in the Fellowship program. Hampton University undergraduate students are selected based on past participation in Hampton’s Communicating Ocean Sciences for an Informal Audience course and interest in ocean science research and in science communication. Responsibilities of each team member are as follows:
- Scientists and graduate students lead research
- Teachers lead communication skills and create classroom activities based on their research
- Graduate students lead communicating science development (video clips, pod casts, web postings, animations of computer simulations)
- Undergraduate students lead public display development.
Please see the Scientist-Educator Partnership page for information on how to become part of a scientist-educator team.
